A Lonely Christmas

A Christmas spent in tedium and solitude. I flick between movies I own that earn new life through their broadcast. I scribble a haiku to whittle away the day.

A wet white winter
The world slips out underfoot
And spins forever

Half satisfied I sit and chew absently on the pencil between my teeth. I check the time on the news scroller whilst casters tell of festive cheer worldwide. It’s late here, the day drawing to a close. Not yet half eight back home. My loneliness would soon be abated with but a single phone call. Christmas could yet wait.
