Mikhail turns the page of the Oxford English dictionary, the incredibly thin paper – fragile in its weightlessness – rustles delightfully.

“Antidisestablishmentarianism” he says aloud, caressing the word’s syllables as it flows across his tongue.

Roberto sits against the wall, gazes at his roommate, watches as he devours the English language so lovingly. A gameboy rests in his sweaty palms, batteries long dead, residual image of a game over still burnt into the grey screen.

Homoerotic thoughts flutter through his mind. Once banished, now accepted.

Ten years on when Mikhail is married with kids, they will still – painfully – be there.
